This precious 1860’s locket, if left unattended on your kitchen counter, may be mistaken for a slab of kerrygold butter. All jokes aside, the 14k gold this bloomed locket is comprised of, is melt in your mouth delicious. The casting is incredibly crisp throughout, but especially on the front face with, presumably, the original owner’s initials. Three gorgeous geometric forms of ornament have been interwoven within the initials “SBS” to create a striking spider-like presentation of the three letters with the first “S” flipped to create symmetry. Inside, the locket holds two black and white pictures, one of a man and the other, a woman. Antique lockets containing genuine antique pictures are not uncommon, but these portraits seem to be from the early to mid 20th century, still incredibly special nonetheless. I would love to see this piece hung from a dark ribbon to fulfill our Manet “A Bar at the Folies-Bergère” styling dreams (pair it with a bangle to get her full look)!
